The situation

A bright San Francisco living room with a light gray sofa, a cozy armchair and two ottomans. Because the pieces were light-colored and used every single day, they showed everything: salt-like white deposits along the edges, street dirt worked into the seats, and the general grayish tint that light fabric picks up over time. What we did

• Fabric test first. Light, delicate upholstery can water-mark, so we tested for colorfastness and dialed in a gentle chemistry before starting.
• Salt and edge treatment. The white salt-like deposits along the arms and edges got a targeted treatment so they dissolved instead of spreading.
• Hot water extraction. Low-moisture, high-heat extraction lifted the everyday street dirt out of the seats and cushions without soaking the fabric.
• Groom and dry. We groomed each piece and set airflow so the sofa, armchair and both ottomans were dry within 6 to 8 hours.

The result
