Sofa and Two Area Rugs Cleaned in One Visit in San Mateo

The situation

Three items in one room, all needing attention and none of them the same: a burgundy sofa, a bold black-red-and-cream graphic rug in the main seating area and a deep grey shag rug by the fireplace. Booking these as three separate jobs would have meant three visits. Booking them as one visit meant one setup, one equipment run and a noticeably lower price per item.

What we did

The efficiency comes from doing them together. The quality comes from not treating them as the same thing:

• The graphic rug — bleed risk first. A rug with strong red against cream is the highest dye-bleed risk there is. Every color was tested separately before a drop of water went on it.
• The shag rug — vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Deep pile holds an extraordinary amount of dry soil at the base. Most of the work on a shag rug is dry extraction; wet cleaning a shag that has not been properly vacuumed just turns that soil into slurry.
• The sofa — standard upholstery protocol. Cushions off, seams detailed, contact points pre-treated, controlled extraction.
• Floor protected throughout. Hardwood under both rugs sheeted before anything started.
• Order of work planned. Sofa first, then the rug it sits on, then the shag — so nothing clean was walked across.
• Separate drying for the shag. Deep pile holds moisture far longer than flat weave and needs its own airflow and its own time.

The result

The graphic rug came back with hard edges between the red, black and cream — no bleed, no muddying at the boundaries, which is the whole risk on a rug like that. The shag lifted and separated instead of lying flat and matted. The burgundy sofa lost the dulling along its front edge. One visit, three items, one setup fee instead of three.
