Gray Sectional and Rug Deep Cleaning in San Francisco: 5 Years of Cat Hair and Dirt

The situation

A San Francisco apartment with a dark gray sectional sofa, a matching tufted ottoman and a large oval area rug. The set had not been professionally cleaned in five years, and it showed: the fabric was packed with cat hair, ground-in food spills and street dirt carried in day after day. The rug had taken the worst of it, dull and matted from years of paws and foot traffic.

What we did

• Heavy vacuum and de-furring. Five years of cat hair does not rinse out, so we lifted it first with a deep vacuum and a fur rake before any water touched the fabric.
• Enzyme pre-treatment. Food spills and pet oils got an enzyme pre-spray that breaks the stains down instead of just wetting them.
• Hot water extraction. Our professional dual-motor extractor flushed the cleaning solution deep into the fibers and pulled it straight back out with the dissolved dirt. On the oval rug the difference was visible in a single pass, one half bright, the other still gray.
• Grooming and speed drying. We groomed the pile and set airflow so everything was dry within 6 to 8 hours.

The result

The sectional and ottoman came back to an even, deep gray, the cat hair was gone and the whole room smelled clean instead of lived-in. The oval rug looked years younger. The whole set was saved for a fraction of what replacing it would have cost.
