The situation

An entire empty apartment in Sunnyvale, carpeted throughout — bedrooms, living area, hallways, stairs and closets. Handover was scheduled and the unit had to be finished and dry in a single day. What we did

A whole-unit turnover is a logistics problem as much as a cleaning one. The order of work decides whether it gets finished in a day:

• Walked and mapped first. Route planned from the furthest room back toward the front door, so no cleaned carpet was ever crossed.
• Full dry vacuum pass, every room. Done as one continuous operation before any water was introduced anywhere in the unit.
• Traffic lanes and doorways pre-sprayed. Doorway thresholds are the most heavily soiled square foot of carpet in any apartment and they need dwell time.
• Stairs by hand tool. Every tread and riser individually — stairs cannot be done properly with a wand and they are checked at every inspection.
• Closets included, no exceptions. Every closet floor cleaned to the back wall. Skipped closets are the most common turnover deduction there is.
• Edges along every baseboard. Hand-detailed, because the filtration line along the skirting is the first thing an inspector's eye goes to.
• Air movers moved through the unit in sequence. Rooms dried in the order they were cleaned, so the whole apartment was dry by the end of the day.

The result

Every room came back to one even tone, with clean extraction lines still visible on the pile — which, on a turnover, is worth something in itself, because it visibly demonstrates that the carpet was professionally cleaned rather than rented-machine cleaned. Photographs of every room went to the client the same evening for the inspection file. One day on site, unit dry and locked before handover.
