Large Gray Sectional Deep Cleaning in San Francisco

The situation

This San Francisco living room is built around one enormous gray L-shaped sectional — the kind of piece that seats the whole family and takes up two full walls. It was the household's main seating, used every single day, and it had never been professionally cleaned. What we did

Oversized sectionals are less about difficulty and more about discipline: every panel, every cushion, every seam has to get the same treatment, or you end up with a clean patch next to a dirty one.

• Protect the room first. We laid plastic sheeting across the floor before touching the furniture — with a piece this large there is a lot of moving, and nothing should end up on the rug or hardwood.
• Strip and vacuum everything. All cushions came off and each one was vacuumed on every face, along with the frame, the crevices and the back panels.
• Pre-treat the high-contact zones. Seat fronts, armrests and headrests carry the body oils, so those got a dedicated pre-spray and dwell time before the wash.
• Hot water extraction, panel by panel. Working in overlapping sections with our dual-motor extractor so the whole sectional got identical coverage — no missed strips, no uneven color.
• Grooming and airflow. Fibers groomed in one direction and air moving over the piece, so it was dry within 6 to 8 hours.

The result

The traffic zones evened out with the rest of the piece, the fabric regained its texture instead of looking pressed flat, and the whole room felt fresher — which is what usually happens when you remove years of trapped dust and oils from the single largest fabric object in the house.
