Bedroom and Walk-In Closet Carpet Cleaning in San Francisco

The situation

A light-colored bedroom carpet with a connected walk-in closet, still fully stocked with clothing. The bedroom carpet had the usual path from the door to the bed. The closet was the more interesting part: closet carpet almost never gets vacuumed properly, it sits under hanging fabric that constantly sheds lint and fiber, and it had a distinctly greyer tone than the bedroom it opened off.

What we did

A closet is a small space with awkward access, which is exactly why it gets skipped. It also takes about twenty extra minutes to do properly:

• Detailed dry vacuuming. Both the bedroom and the closet floor, including under the hanging rails where a household vacuum never reaches.
• Clothing protected. Hanging items were moved clear or covered so nothing was exposed to overspray.
• Traffic path pre-treated. The route from the bedroom door past the bed was pre-sprayed and given time to work.
• Hand tool in the closet. A full-size wand does not maneuver in a walk-in. The closet was done with a hand tool along every edge and into the corners.
• Hot water extraction in the bedroom. Overlapping passes with full recovery, working back toward the door.
• Air movement in both spaces. A closet with no window and no airflow will stay damp if it is cleaned and then shut — air movers were run in the closet specifically until it was dry.

The result

The bedroom traffic path lifted and the closet came back to the same tone as the bedroom, which it had not matched in a long time. The point worth making here is the drying: a closet cleaned and immediately closed is how you get a musty smell in your clothes a week later. Twenty minutes of air movement in a space with no ventilation is not optional.
